Saturday I spent on the site of this short film that heavily featured a cockroach. A real cockroach.
From Sunday to yesterday I was working my little fingers to the bone sewing purple, spangly octopuss legs for a drag queen costume for this Off Broadway play. Oh, and a suit made out of green fur. For real.
The upside is that I knit almost an entire sock from my Sweet Georgia Speed Demon sock yarn! I'm finally knitting a sock and liking it. I'm' using Speed Demon in Velvet Underground and a 32" size 5 circular needle. I *heart* the magic loop!
Oh and I apologize for the abundance of cat hair in the picture. If you have an allergy, you should look away. Quick!

homey tuesday

veggie soup

Today was kind of like a vacation day at The Works. Did you know that every Tuesday there is an X-Files marathon on Sci Fi network? I spent the whole day watching Mulder and Scully and making comforting food.
I made a Birthday Resolution to be healthier. I figured, hey, I'm 30 now, time to get my act together. I'm trying to undo a lot of the unhealthy living I've been doing over the last couple of years by starting a whole new healthy eating regime. I've always been a big advocate of eating whole foods and eating seasonally, but I've had to come to terms with the fact that a baguette and a weel of brie does not make for a proper dinner. (OK, maybe once in a while...)
So, this veggie soup is an old stand-by. It's totally healthy and totally comforting. I also made the most amazing turkey pasta ragu. I'm eating whole wheat pasta, which is a really big concession for me, having been raised in a very Italian-American household, but all in the name of healthy living. Right?
I also made Orangette's chickpea salad, which I'm really excited about. Overall, I cooked up about 2 weeks worth of meals, maybe more, for under $30!
Oh, and knitting, I'm plugging along on The Urban Naturalist's sweater. I'm made peace with the the intarsia and I feel like I'm making progress.

blast!

This is where I've been camped out for 2 days. I'm valiantly trying to finish The Urban Naturalist's sweater. See all the essential items I've gathered around me so that I don't have to leave the couch?
This is not my first attempt at intarsia. You may have noticed my Wobbly Circles Tote languishing for some time on my progress bar. I have to admit that I don't really think it's for me. I'm having a really hard time enjoying knitting this.
I started out trying to simply strand the leg section using a fair isle technique, but it looked so, so horrible I tore it all out. Now I'm using intarsia on the whole thing. It looks a lot neater and more pollished, but I have more little bobbins and butterflies hanging off of my knitting than you can possible conceive.
The front of the sweater went so quickly that this is a little discouraging, but I will soldier on! Never fear! I was hoping to have it completed by Wednesday, but that may be just a little ambitious. Blast, again!

These are my Moo cards. Have you heard about these? They are floating around blogland and I just had to get some of my own. I love them! They're so cute!
Those of you who use flickr.com: Moo.com will chose a random sampling of your images (or carefully select them yourself) and print 100 cards, with your choice of a message on the back. I chose 50 images and so I got 2 of each image on a card. I like to think of them as collectors items, kind of like Garbage Pail Kids.

Get 'em while you can.
